Boy, our triumphant return to the Chili circuit. It's been a bit since we've hit a new chili joint so I was really looking forward to trying some new chili. I used to live right next to the Red Dog but never had an opportunity to try their chili. The Red Dog has some cool atmopshere going for it.. it has lots of TV's and funky stuff along the walls, at the same time not being overwhelming like some of the newer bars.

The menu made my chili hopes soar. The chili was proudly displayed in a LARGE RED font. Additionally below, it said something to the effect that "Of course our chili has beans, real chili has beans." I couldn't agree more. The prices seemed in line, but there was some debate about the extra fixin's. On the menu, it said "Cheese or onions, $.50 extra". I'm a big fan of both, but charging a full dollar for cheese and onions on a $2.29 cup of chili is a bit much.

On with the show, the chili arrived in a disappointingly small cup. Yes, I ordered a cup and probably get what I deserve, but it was at best a shot glass of chili. The flavor itself was decent. It was a little sweeter than your average chili, which I don't mind. There was just one type of bean present, with lots of chunks of hamburger. There were also small chunks of pepper cut up amongst the goodies. Sadly, the chili was missing some magical spices that could have really put it over the top.

All in all, it's a decent chili. It's not worth a long drive on your lunch hour for, but if you stop by you won't be overwhelmingly disappointed with the chili. The bar itself is a neat place to hang so if you're in the neighborhood drop by.

Matt and I visited the Red Dog Saloon with high hopes for some really good chili. The atmosphere is what makes the Red Dog experience worth while. The license plates nailed to the wall, the beer and whiskey signs all over, and the TV's displaying pictures of past bar patrons and funny pictures that you get sent via e-mail, all make for an interesting dining experience.

I ordered cheese and onions on it which, on the menu, shows that is 50 cents each. Even cheap-ass Matt upgraded. The chili itself was good. It tasted very similar to many other chili's I've had and I was disappointed in the tiny cup it came in.

If I'm in the Milford area, I would stop by again for their burger with a side of chili but I don't think it will be a regular stop for lunch.
