Comments by Mark Everest Rating: 7 | I took my family up to Grand Marais for a for day weekend and was hoping to find a place in the Upper Peninsula that served good chili. The Sportsmans was an obvious choice. I've only been in the Sportsmans a couple of times prior to this visit and there was a sign that announced that they were under new ownership so I wasn't sure what to expect. The Sportsmans Restaurant is located 'in town' right next to the Pickle Barrel House. Or maybe it's the other way around. Either way, the Sportsmans is decorated perfectly for the UP - deer head mounts and lumberjack saws and various other implements of the trade. We each ordered cheeseburgers and I added a cup of chili, of course. The chili came topped with plenty of cheese and onion. It was thick with beef, veggies, and beans. It wasn't spicy at all but had a pretty good homemade flavor. As my 5 year old said "This is quality cooking." High praise coming from a cheeseburger and fry expert. I wouldn't drive 400 for a cup of their chili but I will stop in when I'm up this summer. |
