Comments by Mark Everest Rating: 8 | My two sons and I went backpacking on North Manitou Island for four days. After eating PB-J's and freeze dried dinners, the thoughts of cheeseburgers and chili where dancing around in my head. After a Pop-tart breakfast, we hiked for 3.5 miles to the ferry that would take us back to Leland. Because of strong winds and high waves, our boat had to travel to South Manitou turning our 1 hour trip into a 4 hour adventure. So, instead of hitting Joe's Friendly Tavern for lunch, we showed up, starving, for dinner. Because it was 5 hours past my normal lunch time, my shoe would have tasted terrific, so this review my be a tad skewed. I ordered a cup of chili and a huge cheeseburger. The chili came and it smelled awesome! It was thick with chunks of meat and veggies. I dug right in and enjoyed the homemade flavor. There was even a little bit of spice in there! After the chili, the cheeseburger came which was really good as well. It was big, cheesy and bacony (yes, bacony is a word). If you ever get the opportunity to get stranded on a deserted island for days it's worth the half hour trip to Joe's afterword. |
